The Bend Point Decides the Flight, Not the Flex Sticker

Two shafts stamped "stiff" can send the same swing on completely different paths once you account for where each one actually bends. At Kick Point Lab we put every shaft on a deflection board before it ever goes near a launch monitor, so the build spec you leave with is chosen from a measured bend profile — not a label off the rack.

The Core Idea

Kick Point Is the Variable Most Fittings Skip

Kick point describes where a shaft bends the most as it loads and releases through the downswing — closer to the head (low kick) or closer to the grip (high kick). Flex tells you roughly how much a shaft bends on average; kick point tells you where. Chase one number without the other and you can hand a golfer the "correct" flex and still miss the trajectory they actually need.

L

Low Kick Point

Bend concentrated near the tip helps the head square up earlier, launching higher with more spin. A common fix for players who fight low, knuckling shots.

M

Mid Kick Point

An even load through the middle third of the shaft, producing a balanced window that suits the widest range of swing speeds and attack angles.

H

High Kick Point

Stiffness held closer to the grip keeps flight flatter and more penetrating — the usual answer for players ballooning shots in the wind.

Rack Set vs. Bend-Matched Set

What Changes When the Bend Profile Actually Fits

A rack iron set is built to one generic frequency step. When we regap a set to the golfer's real swing, dispersion tightens and the gap between clubs stops drifting toward the top of the bag.

Notes From Golfers Who Got Board-Tested

★★★★★

I'd been told my flex was fine for years. Turned out the kick point was wrong for how I load the club, and switching fixed a ballooning miss I never could explain.

Watching my old shafts on the deflection board and then seeing the new set overlay on the monitor made the whole thing click in a way no salesperson ever explained.

Full bag session with a real written report. My gapping finally lines up wedge to driver instead of doubling up around the seven iron.
